Super Mario 64 DS
From The DS Ultimate Wiki
Super Mario 64 DS is a 2004 Nintendo DS remake of the 1996 Nintendo 64 game, Super Mario 64 which adds three new characters and a vast array of new levels, items and stars to said game. It's also been known on DS Ultimate, likely because most members have experience with hacking and glitch hunting for being the game most commonly hacked and glitches found for.

[edit] Storyline
Bowser captures Princess Peach, steals 150 stars from the castle and uses them to wreak havoc (aka, locking doors, powering up minions and changing the paintings to portals to new worlds). Of course, while this is happening, Mario and friends are still making their way to the castle for that cake promised, and soon after arriving, promptly get captured by Bowser's minions. Sure, game doesn't say quite that, but you realise it soon enough, and it's up to Yoshi to rescue his friends and then for them to collect the stars while saving Princess Peach.
[edit] New Features
There are now three new characters to play as (Yoshi, Luigi and Wario) with their own strengths and weaknesses. To boot, Mario's cap powers are split across the characters this time round, with Wario being able to become metal and Luigi use the vanish cap type stuff.
Two new powers have been added, Mario becoming Balloon Mario like in Super Mario World, and Yoshi being able to breathe fire (like in Yoshi's Island and Super Mario World). There are also new puzzles and missions that must be completed using said powers.
30 new stars were added, including a seventh mission in each major world, and an array of secret stars. This also goes with changes to the levels, such as Whomp's Fortress having a greater ground floor area, and the igloo in Snowman's Land being completely redesigned on the inside. Adding to this, these new levels have been added:
- Sunshine Isles
- Battle Fort
- Goomboss Battle
- Big Boo Battle
- Chief Chilly Challenge
The cake shows all four characters on it as well, the cannon requires 150 stars to open and the roof now has three 1 ups and a rabbit rather than Yoshi for semi obvious reasons. On top of this, most star number requirements were changed.

[edit] Super Mario 64 DS Coin Collecting, Speed Runs and Glitch Hunting
Like the original Super Mario 64, whole communities have sprung up around finding glitches in Super Mario 64 DS. There are plenty of guides here and on Gamefaqs, and even to this day, people like myself and Kyle are finding glitches without even trying! A few common types of glitches found have been:
1. Heaven's Portals
Where the character shoots high into the air and falls back into (or out of) the level from a great height. Bob-omb Battlefield has plenty of these types, and this is how beating Bowser with only fifty stars has been discovered.
2. Hell's Portal
Like a heaven's portal, but you get trapped under the level in a sliding position. Escaping kills the character.
3. Box Glitch
The invisible box glitch is a novel way to make objects act strangely, and requires Yoshi firing an egg as he lands on an enemy to be left holding an invisible box. Then, wandering around in a certain way can actually cause objects to vanish off the map for odd reasons, and freeze unexpectedly.
As for coin collecting, although whole sites aren't that common, it is just as popular as the original Nintendo 64 game. This is because with Yoshi combos and an assortment of interesting infinite coin glitches, getting max scores has become much easier.
List of Important Glitches:
- Uber Glitch
- Tree glitch outside castle.
- Tick Tock Clock room Heaven's Portal
- Infinite Hat Glitch
- Invisible Box Glitch
- Dark Room of Death Glitch
- Box Glitch
- Walk on water glitch
- Flood Tall Tall Mountain
- Bob-omb Battlefield Heaven's Portal glitches
