Mario Kart Wii

The racing game which has been on every Nintendo console since the SNES is back and better than ever! With all new characters, new karts, new tracks, retro tracks, items and 12 player racing, the racing action gets even more intense!

Tracks

Known tracks at this point include a railway type mine track which probably belongs to Wario, a village/farm like track with cows in the road and Mario Circuit. An area where racers bounce down giant mushrooms is also shown.

As for other tracks, some tracks seem to be returning from past games, with Peach Beach and Yoshi Falls being among the selections. I know, so far absolutely crap selections of retro tracks, but awesome new ones!

According to a certain picture, a Mario Galaxy character is also playable. And according to various people, it has a high chance of being Rosalina (then I'd guess, in terms of probability a Toad Brigade member, a new boss, a major NPC like the penguin coach or the penguins then a new species like a Gearmo).

Far more have been confirmed, as Nintendo boast of a far larger selection of characters in this version.

Modes

Grand Prix mode and Time Trial seem likely, and Vs is guaranteed. Battle mode is also in. What new modes they will add though seems yet to be decided.

Online

This game features full online. This includes more than four players racing online, battle mode online and more. Hopefully all the tracks will also be playable online.

Karts

The characters have all new karts, and Mario seems to have the most traditional type one. Wario has this part Brute kart with flames on the side and what looks like some kind of weapon on the front. Bowser has a shell type race kart. And Peach has one that looks like a mini race car.

There are at least two per character from known screenshots, and hence likely at least 36 different karts in the game. Some sources say each character has 6 karts, but this is currently unknown.

Controls

Most controls are not confirmed, but there will be multiple options. The new type of control which is packaged with the game is a Wii remote/steering wheel type control, which could be an interesting method of play...

Retro References and Easter Egg type stuff

Screenshots so far seem to show a retro reference of eight bit Mario and Luigi on a sign, New Super Mario Bros hills in the background of one area and a star shaped fountain. Already found before release!
