The Legend of Zelda The Wind Waker
Case Study 1- Darknut Knight enemy, Underwater Hyrule
This enemy attacks when target (Link) is within about a 10-15 step range of eye sight. It looks around when any loud sounding noise is made nearby, and then carries on walking in a set pattern if no nearby cause is detected. Can only see target if it is in boundaries of normal physical area in a level. Will chase repeatedly if Link is in range of vision. Best way to defeat: Use many sword swipes and parries. Get first attack to destroy armour.
Notes: Modern games work differently to Nintendo 64 era ones and many objects except characer will not die, freeze the game or explode by going out of game boundaries (past invisible walls on each side of box level is in).
Study 2- Peahat, Chu chu or Keese
These enemies will attack you if you are in a set range. However, while Peahats go away if you avoid them for long periods of time, Keese and chu chus will slowly keep moving in the direction towards you (the target), as will Stalfos. Keese will change height or aviation if and when Link himself normally does, and can easily go out of boundaries in any set area. Peahats can as well. Chu Chus can be made to. These enemies act exactly as normal outside invisible wall boundaries. Oddly, these basic enemies can see right past invisible walls while more intelligent enemies such as Moblins and Darknuts cannot.
Hyrule Castle note:
Oddly, when Link goes through the bell, he warps to the castle interior. Was this intended? Who knows.
