View Full Version : Should The Legend of Zelda series stay medieval?

As you can tell by the rumours, and stuff such as the topic about a futuristic Legend of Zelda game, there are people who think this series should update with the times and so on. So to end this once and for all, should the series change in time period? Become a modern series? Set in the future? Set in Victorian times? Set in the stone age? Set in the times of ancient Egypt, Greece and Rome?

Would any of these make the series better, more interesting or worse?

I watched the video and I thought of it very funny.
Zelda is based on the future right now where we can turn earth elements into bombs that destroy mini countries.
Zelda will always be based on the past and legends. [dragons, beasts, etc...]
i hope they realize what they're saying in the video is like erasing history "in a way"

True. Of course, modern day or victorian Legend of Zelda gaming would be erm... different.

DIFFERENT [dif-fer-ent] : a saying which, on DSU, means stupid and dumb.

A weird thing would be a mix of stone age Legend of Zelda, medieval Legend of Zelda and futuristic Legend of Zelda at random. Not as a game, but a great Youtube movie!

at least you added "not as a game" or i would have gone off:p i defend games that make me cry like a little baby [[more like "mist":p]]

Of course not as a game. A good Legend of Zelda game would be specifically made for the Wii controls, with general usual formula, but more difficulty and a longer game overall.

They could make a future zelda but it would have to be time travel.

Most people dislike change to The Legend of Zelda series. Nintendo themselves doesn't either, adding Ganon to like every Legend of Zelda game where a new villain was introduced.

I don't think you could have a Zelda game where link has a machine gun instead of a sword.

I'm going to go against the flow and say "YES!!!!!!!" The video is pretty cool itself, although very corny and obviously fake ("he will now be riding a motorcycle that he will call Epona" lol). If Nintendo decides to make their next Zelda title with "realistic" graphics as opposed to the Celda graphics then I would encourage them to go for a futuristic version.

Instead of a regular sword he could have a, corny as it sounds, beam sword or something futuristic like that.

He could still have a bow and arrows that could possibly look like this:

Bombs could be like pokeballs in that you can store them in their tiny form, and when you need to use one just hit the button in the middle and it'll grow larger and get ready to detonate. In a sense they would be more like grenades considering using bombs in the future wouldn't be very practical.

His boomerang could be more futuristic like this:

lawl just kidding, but you get the picture.

If they could get Square Enix to help them with the art direction AND story that would be awesome. We would finally have an epic story to go along with our epic game.

I see nothing against the current bombs, because such weapons (just not like that in appearance) are still used today. Same with the Boomerang. As for a beam sword... Star Wars much?

Could be said you have a point. Because all these dark, dystopian future settings are overused.

could you imagen a modern Mario (remember the mario movie? that was modern wasn't it)

I don't mind if they change the story and stuff but I would like the setting to remin (As far as it being medivl fantasy type thing)

Has Nintendo tried it yet with any of their games? I guess you could count Metroid F Zero since those are futuristic, but I can't think of anything else. I think if anyone would do it right it would be Nintendo.

How about some of the lesser known Nintendo games? I'm sure they were more futuristic.

But which ones, I don't know any of their lesser games. I think Nintendo would be safe in making a step towards the future. Square did it with FFVII and it paid of nicely for them. I can't really see money for the development costs being to hard to deal with anyways because of the success the DS and Wii have brought them.
