View Full Version : Paper Mario, originality in teams required

Now, this is nothing saying that the Paper Mario series is unoriginal in many senses, but only in one thing, as we can all argue the range of bosses/characters overall/locations/etc are pretty good at least. However, I don't like how BORING many of the partner character designs are, and I wish people would realise that many of these are basically the same thing game after game. Think about it:

Tattling/information- Goombario, Goombella and Tippi all serve this purpose in respective games.

Bombs- Bombette, Bobbery and Boomer all serve this purpose in respective games.

Koopas- Kooper and Koops serve the purpose in respective games

Transportation across gaps and such- Parakerry/Sushi/Lakilester, Yoshi and Carrie serve this purpose in respective games.

Hiding- Bow, Vivian and probably Slim serve this purpose in respective games.

Get the picture here? And how the playable characters are just 'Game before add one' each time:

Paper Mario- Mario and Princess Peach playable

Paper Mario 2- Mario, Princess Peach and Bowser playable

Super Paper Mario- Mario, Princess Peach, Bowser and Luigi playable.

And if you haven't figured this out already, all four were in each game, with two not being playable in the first game, one not being playable in the second game and all being playable in the third.

So think they should come up with some more original character ideas (possibilities in next post).

So what would I say to do? Well, how about taking one of about a million enemies include:


Dry Bones
Hammer Bro
Magikoopa
Cleft
Blooper
Skeleton fish
Wizzerd
Koopatrol
Eel
Mr I
Chain Chomp
Whomp
Thwomp
Piranha Plant
Podoboo
Albatoss
Tap Tap
Monkey/Ukiki
Blargg/Nep E Nut
etc etc....And making a somewhat all new partner with all new abilities? For a change?

The other thing noticed is that many partners, Pixels especially are basically adding a character to replace an otherwise default move Mario has in his adventures as shown by:

Dashell
Cudge
Thudley
Thoreau

which allow to run fast (dash), use a hammer, ground pound and throw things respectively. Even Paper Mario partners were as such, like the Koopas being a replacement for simply being able to throw Koopa shells from knocked out enemy koopas, or the Bob-ombs from throwing enemy bob-ombs at things etc.
