Not true at all. ALl you have to do is hit A a few times till you get to the character select screen. then you fight. However, to unlock stuff, you may want to know whats going on. Just get a translator guide.

Go to the multiplayer menu, then the wifi menu and choose either the second or third option to get your 12-digit friend code.

I use black komas on wifi sometimes, because the amount of people using them pisses me off. I don't use them when playing against friends though.

There is no US version, so don't bother looking.
